Artichoke Basille’s Pizza Opens in New Brunswick With Grand Opening on August 30
The Famed New York Pizza Concept Celebrates Grand Opening by Donating 10% of All-Day Sales to the Rutgers University Foundation
New Brunswick, NJ (RestaurantNews.com) Artichoke Basille’s Pizza, the New York City concept known for its larger-than-life slices and whole pies, is set to open its third New Jersey location near the heart of the Rutgers University campus in New Brunswick on Wednesday, August 30. Located at 104 Easton Avenue, Artichoke Basille’s Pizza will celebrate the Grand Opening with 10% of all-day sales being donated to the Rutgers University Foundation in support of the Scarlet Promise Grants program that helps students in need of financial aid fulfill their potential.
The New Brunswick location is owned and operated by franchisees and loyal customers Premal and Leela Shanghvi, marking the duo’s third Artichoke location. The 1000 sq-foot restaurant will feature the New York-inspired interior design that Artichoke locations are known for, along with countertop seating and bar stools to accommodate the casual atmosphere of Rutgers campus. Classic NYC Artichoke location design elements, including mosaic floor tiles and an antique tin ceiling, will transport customers to Artichoke’s iconic original East Village location and add to the authenticity of the New Jersey establishment.
“We opened our first New Jersey location in Hoboken back in 2019, and it’s been a blessing to now open a third location in such a great spot for students and the New Brunswick community,” said Premal Shanghvi, co-franchisee of Artichoke New Brunswick. “We [Leela and Premal] discovered Artichoke back in 2017 as guests waiting for a slice of pizza on a cold night. We were drawn to the charm and the simplicity of the menu and, before we knew it, we applied and became the first franchisee in New Jersey! This location in New Brunswick is just a block from College Avenue on the main campus, and as a proud graduate of Rutgers University myself, I’m so excited to be back here! We’re also thrilled to partner with the Rutgers University Foundation and give back some of our opening day sales to such a wonderful cause as the Scarlet Promise Grants that helps students assimilate to college experience. We’re both confident that the students will fall in love with the Artichoke Pie and we can’t wait to share an authentic ‘taste of New York’ with the community.”
Artichoke is known for its larger-than-life slices and whole pies cooked fresh throughout the day in a tiled pizza oven. Fan-favorite menu items include the namesake Artichoke Pie with cream sauce, artichoke hearts, spinach, mozzarella, and pecorino romano; the Crab Pie with crab sauce, panko-breaded Surimi crab meat, and fresh mozzarella; as well as traditional flavors like Margherita, Pepperoni, Vodka, and more.
Founded by fourth-generation pizzaiolos, Artichoke Basille’s Pizza established their first location in New York City’s East Village in 2008, and the city’s late-night dining scene (and pizza scene in general) hasn’t been the same since. Revelers and pizza lovers lined up at all hours for a taste of their now-legendary Artichoke Pizza, and since then, more than a dozen additional locations have opened across the country.
Artichoke Basille’s Pizza has been featured on The Tonight Show, Rachael Ray, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Chew, and write-ups in The New York Times, The New York Post, New York Magazine, and US Magazine. The massive slices and whole pies have also garnered praise from celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lopez, Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, Keith Richards, Rachael Ray, Jay Leno, among other celebrities who are often spotted at Artichoke locations across the country.
