Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux to ‘Save the Bases’ with The Tampa Tarpons
Award-winning restaurant partners with MiLB team to donate old equipment to West Tampa Little League baseball organization in Tampa area on June 24
Baton Rouge, LA (RestaurantNews.com) Baseball is in full swing and thanks to Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux®, their Little League counterparts will be running and fielding on new bases too!
Last September, Major League Baseball announced it would increase the size of its bases for the 2023 season leaving many to wonder where the old bases were going. Walk-On’s and its Game-On Foundation launched the “Save the Bases” campaign, asking MLB and Minor League Baseball teams to donate their old bases to the foundation so they could repurpose them the in the local community.
The Tampa Tarpons – The Single-A MiLB affiliate of the New York Yankees – took the message to heart and are donating the old bases to the West Tampa Little League through Walk-On’s Game-On Foundation. Representatives from the Tarpons and their mascot will formally make the donation at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at the Walk-On’s in Tampa, located at 1140 Gramercy Ln.
“We are ecstatic to partner with the Tampa Tarpons to help refurbish baseball fields in the communities where they train to prepare for the upcoming season,” said Gyorgy Tamcsu, General Manager of Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux in Tampa Midtown. “By working together with teams from MLB and MiLB we can give children cleaner, better and safer places to play America’s pastime. Our Foundation will continue its work of supporting initiatives that help children and hope these donations impact underfunded and overlooked communities that do not have the resources to build or refurbish proper athletic facilities like youth baseball and softball fields.”
MLB, MiLB and independent professional baseball organizations interested in supporting this initiative can contact Walk-On’s at savethebases@walkons.com.
The Walk-On’s Game-On Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to build, rebuild or refurbish youth sports facilities, and the organization plans to repurpose the bases for youth league facilities across the country.
