The “So Flavorful” Jarred Pasta Sauce I Reach For Every Single Week (It Tastes Homemade)
I don’t hate red sauce by any means, but it’s not usually my first choice when it comes to pasta. I prefer it as a dipping sauce for mozzarella sticks, crusty bread, and toasted ravioli (a hometown favorite appetizer). So, you can imagine how surprised I was when I tried Primal Kitchen’s Red Sauce Variety Pack and found myself reaching for the marinara and pizza sauces again and again. They’re flavorful, not too sweet, and work for so many different dishes.
What’s So Great About Primal Kitchen’s Red Sauce Variety Pack?
For starters, you get not one or two, but three different sauces in this variety pack. The set comes with the more classic Tomato Basil Marinara, Unsweetened Pizza Sauce, and Roasted Garlic Marinara Sauce (my personal favorite). All three contain avocado oil and organic tomatoes, plus zero added sugars. Perhaps that’s why these sauces stand out to me. I don’t find any of them too sweet (although the natural sweetness from the tomatoes is present), and they all have very tomato-forward flavors.
My favorite, the Roasted Garlic Marinara, gets a little umami boost from that garlic, but the flavor isn’t so strong that it overwhelms. For folks who don’t love garlic, the Tomato Basil Marinara might be more your speed. The basil imparts a touch of freshness that will add some brightness to pasta, frozen mozzarella sticks, and chicken Parmesan.
For pizza nights, though, I reach for Primal Kitchen’s Unsweetened Pizza Sauce, which is thicker than both marinaras and has a dash of oregano, along with garlic and onion powder and dried basil, to bring home that pizzeria vibe.
What’s the Best Way to Enjoy Primal Kitchen’s Red Sauce Variety Pack?
So far, my favorite way to eat the marinara sauces is with pizza-stuffed gnocchi. I originally had been making this frozen gnocchi with a butter sauce, but one night I decided to try it with the Roasted Garlic Marinara instead. Oh man, was it delicious! The marinara added some tomato-y brightness to the slightly dense gnocchi.
As for the pizza sauce, I used it as you would imagine: to make pizza. I don’t like my pizza all that saucy (in part because I often find the sauce too sweet for my liking), but this sauce makes a great neutral base for my homemade pizzas, elevating the gooey mozzarella cheese and salty pepperoni on top.
