Local Kitchens Brings Turkey and the Wolf to California With Flavor Trippin’ Collaboration
Sandwiches, Salads, and Sides, inspired by memorable past times, now available at 10 Northern California locations, marking Local Kitchen’s third recent partnership with a nationally recognized chef
San Francisco, CA (RestaurantNews.com) Local Kitchens, a takeout-first food hall known for curating menus from favorite restaurants and nationally recognized chefs, is excited to announce the launch of ‘Flavor Trippin’, a new menu concept developed by the acclaimed Chef Mason Hereford of Turkey And The Wolf in New Orleans. Starting today, this novel collection of sandwiches, salads, and sides is exclusively available at 10 Local Kitchens locations across Northern California.
Inspired by Chef Hereford’s best-selling cookbook “Turkey and the Wolf: Flavor Trippin’ in New Orleans” and stemming from the success of his renowned sandwich shop, Turkey and the Wolf – named Bon Appétit’s Best New Restaurant in 2017 – ‘Flavor Trippin’’ offers a culinary journey through nostalgic and innovative flavors.
The menu is composed of familiar sandwiches and salads, each of which are reimagined with their own inventive twist. Each dish references a memorable past time – a family recipe passed down from generations, the neighborhood diner, or gas station snacks you’d only get during weekend road trips.
Highlights include the ‘Griddled Mortadella’, a playful take on the classic grilled bologna sandwich. It features seared Mastro mortadella, melted American cheese, crisp iceberg lettuce, and a generous helping of crunchy salt & vinegar chips, finished with a sweet and sharp kick from Tay’s Hot Mustard – a secret home recipe from Chef Mason’s best friend’s mom. Guests are invited to “smash” the chips between two thick slices of toasted Rockenwagner bread, adding a playful twist to the experience.
“We travel all over the country cooking with our buddies and spreading the gospel of sandwiches.” said Chef Mason Hereford. “The ‘Flavor Trippin’ menu is all about my love for sandwiches and the joy they can evoke. It’s about elevating the familiar to something more exciting, and I’m stoked to partner with Local Kitchens to make it happen.”
Chef Hereford’s path to culinary excellence has taken him from cooking in renowned restaurants around the country to the creation of his own dream sandwich shop. His inventive cuisine has not only earned Turkey and the Wolf national acclaim but has also made Chef Hereford a James Beard Best Chef Award semifinalist in 2019. His partnership with Local Kitchens marks a new chapter, bringing his distinctive and whimsical sandwiches to the West Coast.
Local Kitchens’ CEO Jon Goldsmith says, “We’re passionate about offering our guests a diverse culinary experience and Chef Mason’s ‘Flavor Trippin’’ menu is a perfect addition. It’s a celebration of classic American dishes with an innovative twist that fits wonderfully with our existing selection.”
