Masala Nuts
Spicy with a hint of sweetness these Masala Nuts have a satisfying bite and a burst of bold savory flavors. A healthy snack that is easy to make and a must to start the party, especially during the holiday season.
What are Masala Nuts
Masala nuts are a flavorful and aromatic snack made by roasting a variety of nuts with a blend of masala, which refers to a mix of Indian spices. The combination of roasting and the infusion of spices creates a savory, slightly spicy, and well-seasoned taste that is popular in many cultures, especially in Indian cuisine.

Healthy Homemade Snack
These Masala nuts are my favorite homemade snack as they are nourishing, packed with heart-healthy nuts, and come together in no time. The best part is that you can use your favorite nuts. I often use almonds, cashews, pistachios, and walnuts although you can also use peanuts, pecans, hazelnuts, or brazil nuts.
These savory nuts along with Candied Cashews, Crispy Kidney Beans are on repeat in my kitchen. They are perfect as an afternoon snack with a cup of hot Ginger Tea, a healthy on-the-go snack, and perfect for game nights, movie nights, on charcuterie boards, or as appetizers. A must-have when you are hosting an Indian Party.
Ingredients
- Nuts – I like to use equal proportions of cashews, almonds, pistachios, and walnuts. You can use the nuts you have on hand. Peanuts are often used in this recipe.
- Spices – Kashmiri red chili powder, black pepper, turmeric, amchur (dry mango powder), chaat masala, and salt add a mildly spicy, tangy flavor.
- Sugar – a little bit of sugar balances the spicy tangy flavors well but you can leave it out if you are on a sugar-free diet.
- Oil – adding a little bit of neutral cooking oil helps stick the spices to the nuts
How to Make Masala Nuts
- Add all the spices to a large mixing bowl.
- Add sugar and oil and mix well.
- Add all the nuts.
- Mix well coating the nuts evenly with the spices.
- Spread the nuts on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake at 300 F for 20 minutes stirring the nuts halfway through
- Allow the nuts to cool down completely before storing them in an airtight container.

Masala Nuts can be served in so many ways. Here are some of my go-to ideas:

- Party Platter: Include masala nuts in a mixed nut platter at parties or gatherings.
- Salad Topping: Sprinkle on salads for an extra crunch and burst of flavor.
- Charcuterie Board Addition: Include masala nuts on a charcuterie or cheese board for a savory element.

- Cocktail Hour Snack: Serve alongside cocktails or mocktails for your next gathering.
- Holiday Treats: I love serving these masala nuts during holiday gatherings and they are a must for my Diwali hosting. They also make for a perfect holiday treat to share with friends and neighbors, a savory snack is always welcome!
Storing
Store masala nuts in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 weeks.
Tips and variations
- Make sure to bake the nuts at a low temperature and stir them a couple of times so they are lightly browned for the perfect toasty, buttery, and earthy nuts.
- Every oven works differently so keep an eye on the nuts for the last few minutes.
- Love spicy nuts? Substitute half of the Kashmiri chili powder with spicy chili powder or cayenne.
Air Fryer Masala Nuts
You can also make these masala nuts in the air fryer. Simply add the nuts coated with spices to the air fryer and air fry at 300 F for 8 to 10 minutes shaking the basket halfway through. Tip: Air fry in two batches so the nuts are not overcrowded.
