AMISH CARAMEL DUMPLINGS
These Amish Caramel Dumplings are so good! I found this recipe in an old cookbook and switched it up a bit to make it fit our taste, but it’s pretty close to the original. I made more sauce as we love caramel, and I knew my family would want extra. This is the perfect sweet treat! Serve warm and top with ice cream.. OH MY.. so good!
Amish Caramel Dumplings Ingredients Needed:
If you have followed our site for any time, you know we love Amish recipes. We have discussed visiting the Amish community near us and have always enjoyed their food and products. We used to go every week to the local Amish store to buy fresh homemade butter.
These dumplings are easy to make, and the caramel sauce is so good, especially over ice cream. The dumplings are light and fluffy, and delicious. If you love this type of recipe, you will also love our Blackberries and Dumplings. That is an old-fashioned classic my family has enjoyed for as long as I can remember.
Our most popular recipe is our Amish Pasta Salad, it has wonderful reviews, and if you love Amish recipes as we do, you will definitely want to make it!

Amish Caramel Dumplings
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup milk more or less
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups water
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt in a bowl. Grate or cut cold butter into small pieces and cut into flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Add sugar, milk and vanilla extract to flour mixture to make a dough. Can add more than 1/3 cup milk if needed to get dough to hold together.
Combine water, brown sugar and butter in a pot on top of the stove. Bring to a boil. Cover with lid. Drop tablespoons of dough mixture into syrup. Cover and simmer 6 to 7 minutes until dumplings are cooked.
Serve with ice cream or whipped cream on top. Good hot or cold. Can sprinkle on nuts of your choice. Makes about six servings.
