I Tried the “Corona Colada” Hack and It Tastes Like a Tropical Vacation
If you like piña coladas — cue the song — then I have a sneaking suspicion that you are also going to love this new viral drink. Sure, a frozen piña colada is great on a hot summer day, but what if you don’t have a blender? Better yet, what if you’re at the beach or a park with friends and you’re craving this drink but can’t exactly get your hands on one? Thankfully, with this viral recipe, all you need is a bottle of Corona.
This “Corona Colada” is the perfect cocktail to whip up for friends when you don’t have your full bar set up at home. Simply mix coconut liquor, coconut cream, and juice in the bottle of beer, and you have yourself the perfect frothy drink. No blender necessary.
But is it as good as it sounds? We put it to the test to see if it lives up to the hype. And the song!
Open a Corona and take a few sips of the beer to make room in the bottle. Drink at least until you hit the label. Add in 1 ounce of Malibu Coconut Flavor Liqueur, 3/4 ounce of fresh lime juice, 3/4 ounce of coconut cream, and 1 ounce of pineapple juice. Place a wedge of lime in the bottle at the top and serve.
For someone who isn’t typically a fan of coconut-flavored things, I was pleasantly surprised how much I loved this drink. The flavor of the Corona cuts into the sweetness of the coconut liquor and cream nicely, and honestly gives off the taste of the piña colada. The acid from the juice already pairs well with a Corona, so adding that with the sweetness of the coconut balanced out this drink nicely.
I experimented with this beverage with a few friends, and we all agreed that this is the kind of drink you want during the summertime. A hot day by the beach or in a park, this was the party pleasing drink that everyone wanted to try. We found ourselves running out of Coronas rather quickly.
